Shaw Wedding

My hair put to the side, then the fellow bridemaid's hair with an up-do.

This past weekend was my friend's wedding. Although they have only dated each other a little over a year, they are now married. It was a nice, simple wedding which matches my friend perfectly. The DJ left some annoying moments at the reception by not placing the right song for the father-daughter dance and playing awkward music.

I was excited that I took on a major fiet at this wedding by doind my own hair and one of the bridemaid's. Usually I get stressed out by these events and would rather have the fate of my hair put in another's hands. BUT, I actually pulled it off! The fellow bridemaid's hair stayed put and look like a professional did it. My hair managed to look the same.

Conquered Fear

Today I successfully completed all the 'stickings' I needed to pass phlebotomy. In all honesty, if I could of I would have avoided this class at all costs. I couldn't even poke my finger in Histology class at MC to look at my blood under the microscope. I made a mad dash for the bathroom where I spent most of the lab period splashing water of my face to prevent myself from passing out. Even before this class started I tried to 'desensitive' my fear by watching youtube videos of drawing blood. Big mistake! I ended up in the bathroom again trying to prevent myself from passing out. So, when this class came around I knew I had no choice but to suck it up. Amazingly, I've made it. No pass outs. I've even acquired a good technique. I still have issues with the fact I'm actually jabbing metal into someone's vein and I doubt that thought will fade.

Sharps

'Sharps' are what my phlebotomy instructor says instead of needles. Did you know they come in various sizes? Getting IV needles are a heck of a lot worse than the butterfly needles they use to draw blood. How ironic is it that to call a sharp thing that is going to drive into my vein to suck the blood out is known as a 'butterfly'? Well I guess I could be less forunate if that person missed my vein and hit a tendon, nerve, or artery. Yeah, I would say I'm completely ready and excited about the possiblity of a new-be practicing drawing blood on me. NOT! But, I'm sucking it up. I'm also going to be the new-be who does this to someone else. I'm going to conquear this fear too. I have a support group of friends and teachers to help me. Yeah, I admit it....I need all the the help I can get. :-) Wish me luck!

What a Stud!

I'm dedicating this post to my boyfriend because he loves John Wayne too!

Preview of Lab Life

Yesterday, I got an opportunity to have a preview of what my job will be like. I got to tour Lutheran Hospital's lab. The lab was divided up into different categories; such as: microbiology, blood bank, histology, chemistry, electrophoresis, etc. The most interesting part of the whole tour was how I reacted to the microbiology lab. I felt like this was the area I belonged, never mind the odor that encompasses you as soon as you walk through the door. The smell of microorganisms reproducing. Yummy, huh? As I walked around the lab, I now thank Dr. Kreps for being such a hands on teacher in Microbiology Lab. Streaking already-prepared, prepackaged agar plates made from goat blood with urine samples seems like a piece of cake compared to his labs. This probably sounds gross to some, but microorganisms are on every surface we touch. While some are friendly, others are your worst enemy!
Along in the microbiology lab, the lab techs had some parasites they've collected over the years. One jar had fungus found in the aqueous humor (found in the eye ball). Another jar had a feeding tube with a worm growing every which way through it. There were also plenty other jars with various worms in them. They also had a special room for Tuberculosis (TB) testing/growth with negative airflow. Which makes sense, since you can inhale this terrible critter.
Oh, the two other parts I was familiar with were Histology and Electrophoresis. Electrophoresis is neat to compare DNA, RNA, proteins etc. The histology department takes tissue sample from every part that is removed from a body during a surgery. When a leg get amputated, that's where it goes. They once removed a 78 lb uterus from a lady.
So when I got my tonsils taken out my sophomore year at MC, I saw the lab it came too. They keep tissue samples up to ten years, so I'm figuring my tonsil tissue slide is there! So in a sense I belong to this lab because they already have a piece of me.

Car sick

This weekend was the weekend of Deb's bridal shower. The destination of this joyous event was set in Indy. This created a problem because my car has many years. I love my car but I'm afraid of driving long distances while it. I think that goes for obvious reasons. Luckily, the bride-to-be said I could ride down with her fiance from Manchester.
Saturday morning I managed to get up at the ridiculous time of 6:30 a.m. to clean house, do dishes, get ready, and stop at Walmart to get a gift card...then drive to MC to be there before 9. I arrived 3 minutes till and was ready for the adventure...or not. I found out we had another lady joining us, Emily, which made it nice because we bonded over the exhausting two days we spent together. The bridal shower was really fun. Tricia and Melissa were there and I would have to say that they made my day. The ridiculous amount of fun we seem to create every time we are together makes the space between not seeing them worth it. I appreciate them that much more.
Here is where the 'not' part of being ready for this adventure fits in (in summary)...
Help clean up bridal shower. Stopped at numerous relative's houses. Walmart. Helped with favors. Spent two hours cooking chicken for dinner. Dog humped my leg. Missed opportunity to see BF. Dog humped leg. Difficult sleeping. Cigarette smoke clogging lungs. Woke up. Contact tore. Left late. Someone forgot phone. Drove back to get phone. More relatives. Long car ride. Dress size mix up. Drive back home. Finally home.
I did have some great conversations and bonding this weekend with numerous people, but just wish I had a day to recover before class tomorrow.

Daily Frustrations

So after taking classes at MC, I'm fairly use to getting my butt kicked in the amount of homework, reading, and test material I have to study for in my classes. Then coming to a career training college such as MedTech, it's crazy how freely A's seem to be given here. I'm not the only one who thinks this is true. During this quarter, I've had one particular instructor guilty of this crime. But, this instructor teaches two of my classes. In these two classes, everyone has some degree of an A for their final grade. Isn't that just a little ridiculous?
I'm also slightly irritated at the attitude of the students going here. I think Michelle Tanner's (Ashley/Mary Kate Olson) saying "How rude!" would work well here. I miss the carefree, playful fun atmosphere that seemed to be a part of MC. Even in the harder classes, the personalities weren't lacking.
I'm beginning to wonder if I should have just gone to grad school...

The Perfect Kiss

How would you describe the perfect kiss? Would it involve a heated wrestling battle with your clothes and your partner in order to beat the world record of the fastest undressed while still lip-locked? Or would the kiss be a slow seduction that makes your foot pop up like seen in the movies? Is there even a perfect kiss?
My definition of the perfect kiss would be the slow seduction. I've had a couple of memorable kisses in my life, some for good reasons and others left the impression of "what the heck is he doing?" Considering that girls are complex creatures blessed with the complications of needing to be stimulated emotionally, psychologically, and sexually in order to receive the peak amount of pleasure, guys have their hands full. No pun intended. No girl is going to remember a 'quick to the finish line' kiss. The kiss that will imprinted to compare to others is the one where the guy took my breath away (without choking me with his tongue), made me putty in his arms (without kneading all my lovely lady parts), made me weak in the knees (not from his garlic breath), and took this time exploring and teasing my mouth (without using my mouth as a substitute for my vagina). A good saying in the seduction of kissing 'less tongue is more'. God gave us lips with thousands of nerve endings that will do wonders all on their own (if used correctly).
Sometime a good kiss is what we are really after. The tingly, goose bump feeling where we have to pinch ourselves to check if we are dreaming type of kiss. A guy can literally seduce a girl without touching any of her lady mounds or garden if he can kiss well...because then that's all we want him to do after the kiss as ended.
In my scenerio my head being softly cradled between his two masculine hands, holding me as something he cherished. Our eyes would meet and then as he leans in to kiss me, I close my eyes ready to be engulfed in heaven. He gives me soft, sweet teasing kissing. He does not treat me as something to be tamed, but wants my sweet surrender and melt into him. He uses his lips to kiss mine, softly exploring. He uses his tongue to caress mine, but occasionally lets me lead and set the pace of kissing.
Let the lady have the power to equally seduce you. In a way it gives us a sense of having control and with your encouragement we can be bold.
